All three stations broadcast out of shared studios known as the "Charlottesville Newsplex" on 2nd Street Southeast in downtown Charlottesville. In addition, some behind-the-scenes duties are run alongside sister station and ABC affiliate WHSV-TV in Harrisonburg, Virginia|Harrisonburg (which the "Newsplex" has a resource sharing alliance with). television syndication|Syndicated programming on WAHU includes: ''Friends'', ''Two and a Half Men'', ''Family Guy'', and ''King of the Hill''. It is offered on Comcast cable channel 9 and is known on-air as '''''WAHU Fox 27'''''. The station operates the area's MyNetworkTV affiliate on its second digital subchannel. Known on-air as '''''My C'Ville TV''''', it is also offered on Comcast cable channel 2.
Digital television
The station's digital signal is multiplexed.
History
The station began its life as '''WADA-LP''', a ION Television|Pax affiliate, in 2005. It was first on channel 55 and later moved to channel 27. In late-March of 2005, owner Tiger Eye Broadcasting sold the station to Gray who proceeded to change the call letters to the current '''WAHU-CA'''. The station became a Fox affiliate and was integrated with WCAV and WVAW-LP. Prior to WAHU's affiliation switch, Fox was available on cable from WTTG in Washington, D.C. That station was considered the default Fox affiliate for the market and is still seen on cable due to "significantly viewed" status from the FCC. Since 2006, the three stations have been the flagships of University of Virginia sports.
On December 28, WAHU launched its digital signal on UHF channel 40. It is also offered on Comcast digital cable channel 213. While providing a standard definition Fox feed on its first digital subchannel, the station began airing a dedicated MyNetworkTV channel on a new second one. Following the addition WAHU-DT2, the station shifted several programs to the MyNetworkTV subchannel. Prior to the addition of WAHU-DT2, MyNetworkTV was added on September 5, 2006 as a secondary affiliation on the main channel. As part of the launch, Comcast swapped WAHU's first cable location spot with WTTG. This moved WAHU to channel 9 in what is widely considered a preferential location. On March 14, 2008, "My C'Ville TV", along with other television stations in Virginia, broadcasted the Virginia High School League championships basketball tournament for the first time.
Newscasts
WAHU and its sister stations employ the largest television news team dedicated exclusively to the Charlottesville market. While NBC affiliate WVIR-TV dedicates a large portion of its staff to adjacent markets, WAHU focuses its coverage solely on the counties that comprise the Charlottesville viewing area. As the primary station in the "Charlottesville Newsplex" operation, WCAV airs the most local newscasts. WVAW simulcasts ''Good Morning Charlottesville'' and only airs local news on its own during the week at 7 P.M. Weeknights at 11, the station simulcasts WCAV's newscast. Previously, WVAW had aired its own local news at that time. There are no weekend local newscasts on WVAW. WAHU airs an hour long extension of ''Good Morning Charlottesville'' at 7 A.M. and a nightly 10 o'clock newscast. All newscasts, except the hour long extension of ''Good Morning Charlottesville'' on WAHU, are streamed live on the "Charlottesville Newsplex" website.
