North-West District (Botswana)


North-West is one of the districts of Botswana|districts of Botswana. It was formed in 2001 by combining the districts of Chobe District|Chobe with Ngamiland District|Ngamiland.

Location

North-West's location in the country causes it to share borders with the following foreign areas:
- Omaheke|Omaheke Region, Namibia - southwest
- Otjozondjupa|Otjozondjupa Region, Namibia - west
- Okavango Region|Okavango Region, Namibia - northwest
- Caprivi Region|Caprivi Region, Namibia - north
- Western Province|Western Province, Zambia - a tiny border in the north
- Matabeleland North|Matabeleland North Province, Zimbabwe - east Domestically, it borders the following districts:
- Central District (Botswana)|Central District - southeast
- Ghanzi District - southwest

Sub-districts

Sub-districts of North-West District include:
- Chobe
- Delta
- Ngamiland North
- Ngamiland South

Settlements

By far the largest settlement in the district is Maun, which had a population of 43,776 in 2001 census while the second largest village, Kasane, had 7,638. The following is the list of villages noted separately in 2001 census in each census region.
Ngamiland East

Ngamiland West
- Beetsha, Etsha 6, Etsha 13, Gane, Gonutsuga, Gumare, Ikoga, Kauxwhi, Mohembo East, Mohembo West, Mokgacha, Ngarange, Nokaneng, Nxamasere, Nxaunxau, Qangwa, Sepopa, Seronga, Shakawe, Shaowe, Tubu, Xadau, Xakao, Xaxa, Botswana|Xaxa
Chobe
- Kachikau, Kasane, Kavimba, Kazungula, Botswana|Kazungula, Lesoma, Mabele (Muchinje), Pandamatenga, Parakarungu, Satau
Delta
- Daonara, Ditshiping, Jao, Katamaga, Morutsha, Xaxaba
