Cagnes-sur-Mer


Cagnes-sur-Mer is a commune in France|commune of the Alpes-Maritimes Departments of France|department in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur Régions of France|region in southeastern France. It is a part of the metropolitan area of Community of Agglomeration Nice Côte d'Azur|Nice Côte d'Azur and the largest suburb of the city of Nice, and lies to the west-southwest of it, about from the center. It was the retreat and final address of the painter Pierre-Auguste Renoir, who moved there in an attempt to improve his arthritis. In the late 1920s, Cagnes-sur-mer became a residence for many United States|American renowned literary and art figures, such as Kay Boyle, George Antheil and Harry Crosby|Harry and Caresse Crosby. It is also known for its horse racing venue, the Hippodrome de la Côte d'Azur, and a four-kilometer pebble beach.
